Vita Coco coconut water review

I loved this next water I am  reviewing almost  as much as I loved O.N.E coconut water. This one was just perfect after I did a long elliptical workout. Our house was quite warm that day and I had really pushed myself on the elliptical, so just water alone wouldn’t do after this workout. So, I turned to my group of coconut waters and tried another. Today was the Vita CoCo water. I was excited to try this one as it reminded me of ONE water.

So, how did I like this one?

1. I, again like the ONE water, like the packaging of this water. The paper box packing reminded me of good ol’drink boxes as a kid and that always brings back good memories :-) .
2. As you can see, this coconut water is much larger than the other two I have tried so far. It was about double the size. While I enjoyed the size of the ONE water (it seemed just enough that was needed after hot yoga), I did like the extra amount after the elliptical. While I sweated less on the elliptical, I did feel more run down after this workout due to the length and how hard I pushed, so having the larger coconut water was a plus. So, if you find you are doing a harder, longer, more strenuous workout, the larger size might fit you better.
3. The taste was just the same as my favorite ONE water. Light, subtle and lower in calorie. Just keep in mind there are 2 servings here, so you are drinking more calories and carbs!
4. The only reason I like the ONE water more was the smaller shape. So, if you are on the fence, both ONE and Vita waters are great. ONE has great flavored ones, smaller size and smaller opening to drink from. Vita also has great flavors, yet larger drinking area and larger bottle. I found this was good as each one fit my rehydrating needs perfectly.
5. After chugging this entire box, like the other coconut waters I felt replenished. The light flavor and low sugar taste/amount made it easy to drink, easy to chug and was very enjoyable.
6. Being this one is larger in size, I found its great to take on trips. My H and I take long road trips and don’t always like heavy meals on our stomachs, yet need to stay fueled and hydrated to stay focused on the roads. For our last long road trip, I grabbed a couple of bottles of these. The larger size did come in handy here and were perfect for keeping us hydrated and filled up in btw lighter roadtrip meals. Now, my H isn’t the biggest fan of coconut waters, but rather than drinking our weight in Gatorades and diet cokes, this was a great alternative. Maybe I will convert him after all!!

Overall, this is my very, very very close 2nd favorite. The only difference in this one and the ONE water is the size. Both rehydrate, replenish and are very tasty, yet the size is quite different, so choose the one that best fits your needs!

Have you tried any coconut waters I reviewed yet? What do you think so far?

CoCo Libre Pure Organic coconut water product review

For my next coconut water review, I will be reviewing the CoCo Libre coconut water. I tried this bottle after one of my favorite hot yoga classes by Nikki. No matter the size or heat in class, I always come out like a drowned rat from her classes. She not only works us enough to create more heat than the heaters are putting out, but also challenges each and every one of us to push ourselves past our comfort zone and see how far we can push ourselves. I have grown as a yogi so much from her classes! So this was a perfect time to do another coconut water review.

This time I grabbed the CoCo Libre Organic Water. I was impressed with the bottle right away and hoped it lived up to its cuteness…LOL

1. Right away, I noticed the bottle. It definitely caught my eye. I like the bottle shape and size. It fit easily in my purse and was easy to handle after a sweaty yoga class. The smaller, sleeker shape was easy to grab and would be perfect in any workout bag. I thought it would be good in kids sports bags and even their lunches. Small and sleek to fit in any lunch bag/tote.
2. This water rehydrated me just as quick as others with a very refreshing taste. I found very quickly after I chugged it, I was feeling better. The run down feeling you get after a sweaty workout was quickly gone, and I was left with my nice workout high and feeling great.
3. I did like the very subtle coconut flavor that wasnt too overpowering. When you need to chug water after a hard, sweaty activity, you don’t want too heavy of a flavor. This one went down great.
4. I did notice an odd tingling sensation after I drank this one. For some reason it turned me off. I love the taste, shape and size, yet the tingle threw me for a loop. Not sure if that’s common with this water, but it was there..LOL
5. I did like the lower carb and cal count on this one as I didn’t feel like I was drinking too many calories which some times can be a diet trap. I try to steer clear of calorie laden drinks, and this is one reason I steer clear of sports drinks. Too sugary and too high in calorie, blowing my days cals. This was about 50-60 cals and low in carbs/sugars. Just enough to replenish you after a hard activity such as hot yoga

So would I recommend this brand to a friend? Yes,  but I still am put off by the odd tingling sensation I got, and so while I do think this is a great product, I still feel O.N.E water was still running #1 right now. That one just was my overall favorite so far and fit my needs just a bit  more.

Both so far have replenished me, rehydrated me and helped me feel even better after hot yoga, but if I were to push a product, ONE is #1 with my next coconut water I will be reviewing as a close close second. I think CoCo Libre is my 3rd favorite!

So, what do you think? Have you tried coconut waters? Which are your favorites? Let me know!!

O.N.E Coconut water review

So here we go, review of coconut waters #1. I decided to best do these reviews was to drink the coconut water as intended. To replenish and rehydrate after a somewhat hard, sweaty activity. So, instead of sipping, tasting, enjoying the waters, I waited to try each one after a long hot yoga session, a hard HIIT on the elliptical, or after working in the yard/garage/etc on a hot florida day.
So today, after a rather HOT and VERY sweaty yoga session, I cracked open my first water. O.N.E coconut water.
Now mind you, I have tried 2 other coconut waters in my life and to be honest, HATED THEM. They tasted “thick” (if that makes any sense), had way too strong of a flavor of coconut, almost fake like, and just were not chugable like you’d want after a sweaty activity. So to be honest, I was a bit hesitant to do these reviews, but Denice is so awesome, I decided to give it a whirl again.

Today was O.N.E coconut water. After a hot yoga session on a hot Florida day, I tried this one. I was drinking it as I was driving to my errands, Christmas time chaos at Target (YIKES) so I was hoping this water would refresh me, rehydrate me enough to battle the crowds at Target then the grocery store. As I normally do after hot yoga, I chug as much chilled (key here is to drink coconut water chilled) water as I can. So I opened the chilled coconut water and chugged it down.

Here’s my thoughts:
1. Right away I noticed the taste. It was like a slight watery apple juice but very enjoyable. Not heavy, bland or overly sweet.
2. It didnt taste thick :-/ LOL
3. The plain coconut water flavor was subtle but enough to enjoy it
4. After I chugged it and drove another 20 mins to Target, I noticed I didnt “need” more water. Normally I chug 32-48 ounces after yoga, but this time I could drink more water, but wasnt CRAVING it like my life depended on it.
5. I felt hydrated after. Sometimes after yoga or elliptical, I drink to a ton of water but still have that dehydrated, run down feeling, so I grab Gatorade to help. Like Gatorade, this helped replenish me and help me feel hydrated yet I didnt have all the sugar and sweetness of a Gatorade. This is just natural coconut water. I didnt feel run down or achy after but was able to tackle Target and the grocery store!!
6. I liked the packaging too. Small, portable, and paper packaging is easy to dispose of. The box reminded me of drink boxes back in the day and make me feel a bit kid like…bonus there!! LOL!

Overall, I really did like this coconut water. Out of 5 stars I’d give this a 4.5-5 stars. Excellent!
Small enough to throw in your purse or bag, tasty, hydrates you well and nothing artificial in it!!! Definitely give this O.N.E coconut water a try. They even have flavored ones too!!

Hope this helps…keep your eyes peeled for more coconut water reviews over the next few days and weeks!!

Coconut waters

HI all!!! Been a while since I have done any sort of product reviews. Recently, a great and amazing person and friend of mine, Denice, has decided to open a yoga studio..YAY!!! And in the meantime, she has asked a few of us to sample some coconut waters and give her feedback on the ones we liked and disliked so she can offer only the best at her future studio!! So, here are the brands. Over the next few days or weeks, I will be highlighted them. Some I liked, some I didn’t.

ENJOY and BE HEALTHY!!

Here are the waters I will be reviewing soon:

Shimp and orzo

I needed a quick, easy meal on a busy night. So I just started grabbing items we enjoy together from the fridge and pantry and came up with dinner!

ENJOY!

Ingredients: (makes for 2)
10-15 small to medium shrimp
1 red pepper sliced
1-2 cups spinach
1-2 cloves garlic minced
Evoo for pan
1 cup cooked orzo
1-3 oz goat cheese
10 grape tomatoes cut in half

Directions:
Cook orzo as directed.
Heat evoo in pan. Once warm, add garlic and cook about 30 seconds. Add in peppers, spinach and tomatoes. Cook about 2-4 minutes until all veggies are soft. Add in shrimp and cook. Season as preferred. Once shrimp is cooked, add in goat cheese and mix and melt.
Top cooked orzo (Or spinach for me as I don’t eat much pasta) and serve immediately.

Irish cream and pistachio fudge

H’s work was having another potluck, this time for Christmas, so I needed a couple new fun desserts. I just saw this recipe and had to make it. They love the boozy desserts, anything over the top sweet and indulgent, so these fit the bill perfectly. But for me, it was the ease of the recipe that made me want to make it. This came together quickly, chilled and then it was time to cut and sample! Excellent. It does make a lot as you cut them into small pieces so be warned!!!

ENJOY and MERRY CHRISTMAS!!

Ingredients:
36 ounces white chocolate chips
1 can sweetened condensed milk
1/2 cup Irish cream liquor,  plus 3-4 tablespoons
1/3 cup salted pistachios, chopped

Directions:
Line a 9×9 pan with foil paper and lightly grease it.
In a sauce pan, at low heat, pour in all of the ingredients except pistachios. Stir constantly until chocolate has almost melted.
Turn off heat and continue stirring until chocolate is completely melted. Add pistachios and pour evenly into prepared pan. Let cool until set. Remove fudge from pan and peel off the foil paper. Cut fudge into small squares.

Sugar Cookie Biscotti

As my readers know I love biscotti. I love them with a cup of freshly brewed coffee, I love how easy they are to make and I love how many different flavors you can make as biscotti. But I love buttery, almond flavored sugar cookies at the holidays even more. But sugar cookies, the cut out kind, are a pain to make sometimes. So I decided to take my favorite basic biscotti recipe, use almond extract in the batter instead of any other addins, and top with an almond glaze. I used this recipe with almond extract, about a tsp to tsp and a half, then topped with a half cup to a cup of powdered sugar mixed with a tsp to tbsp of water (add a bit at time to get a glaze consistency), add in a small bit of almond extract and mix well. Dye if desired and drizzle on cookies. I do find that with sugar cookies they are best made a few days ahead. The almond and butter flavors deepen and are oh so good. The same is with these biscottis. Make them a few days in advance and then they are perfect!

ENJOY and HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

Crostini with Figs, Prosciutto, and Goat Cheese

Each year at our holiday party, any appetizer made with goat cheese is highly enjoyed. I try to find new ways to use goat cheese in my apps each year and this year I stumbled on this recipe. This was easy to make and very very good. I don’t normally like figs, but with all the other strong flavors the figs worked very well together. These were enjoyed by all!

ENJOY!

Ingredients:
12 1/2-inch slices of baguette
Olive oil
6 Tbsp goat cheese, at room temp
4 slices of prosciutto*
4 figs, thinly sliced
Honey, for serving
Pinch of salt

Directions:
Heat broiler.
Place baguette slices on a baking sheet and drizzle with olive oil.
Cook for 1-2 minutes, until golden brown.
Remove from oven and let cool.
Tear prosciutto slices into thirds.
Spread 1/2 Tbsp of softened goat cheese on each crostini.
Arrange prosciutto and sliced figs on top.
Just before serving, lightly drizzle with honey and sprinkle salt over top.
Serve at room temperature.

Grand Marnier Strawberry Santas

For our annual holiday party I wanted to find some silly santa type desserts. I had planned to make the santa cupcakes (on my blog) but wanted a more adult type dessert yet still was silly. I have seen these strawberries all over online recently, so I decided to make them but with Grand Marnier whipped cream instead of frosting. I whipped up heavy cream (about a half cup, with a tsp of sugar and a tsp to a tsp and a half of Grand Marnier.) I piped the chilled whipped cream on the bottom part of the strawberry then topped with the “santa hat” and finished it off with a dollop of whipped cream. Make some eyes and you are all set!!! These were a huge hit and very very good!

ENJOY!
