BBQ beefPosted: September 13, 2010
Here is one of my mom’s famous recipes. This is a great summer meal, tailgate main dish, winter slow cooked meal, party meal, meal for a large group, etc…LOL it was a hit anytime in our house growing up. Slow cooks, tastes great and can be adapted to fit your tastes and likes! Serve with potato salad and on buns and you have a perfect meal!
3 to 4 lbs of stewing beef cut up in to smaller chunks
salt and pepper
a medium bottle of ketchup and use about 2/3 to 3/4 of it
1/3 regular sized bottle of mustard
2 to 3 cups of brown sugar
1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
couple stalks of celery chopped
Heat oven to 325-350ish.
Mix everything together and cover with water but just to top of meat and cover pan.
Place in oven around 350 degrees until it starts to break up easily (like 3 to 4 hrs). if it is not breaking easily and I mean easily, cover and put back in oven until it does. During the 3-4 hours, every so often stir everything well.
Then uncover once it is shredded until water cooks down around another hour. Stir well. Serve on thick bakery buns and enjoy. Freezes well.
**Be sure to keep an eye on this dont let it dry out!!**
